THE MUST DOS IN DOING BUSINESS INTERNATIONALLY: REALITIES OF CHINA-CHILE TRADE TRANSACTIONS

One of the major setbacks in doing business is the risk of being defrauded. Most often than not, fraud cases are caused by unguided dealings and lack of extensive research of potential business partners, especially in doing transactions internationally. Being the only Chinese law firm in Santiago, Chile, fraud cases comprised most of the cases that our law firm handled. Sadly, Chinese businessmen – both big and small – are being made victims of their so-called partners from Chile. One of our cases involves a big Chinese company ABC, importing Durvillaea Antarctica from a Chilean company XYZ. The need for the products is urgent that ABC entered into a Sale Contract involving a huge quantity of products and made payments right away to XYZ. However, not a single piece of product arrived in China and XYZ disappeared and in no way can be contacted.   In doing business, the first thing to do is to research . And this does not include solely researching the market, but as w...

Una Oda a mi Futuro Hijo...

I remember when my Ob-Gyne told me that I am left with a polycystic right ovary (that means I am not producing mature eggs) and if I want to have a baby, I should be pregnant within a year from the time of my surgery (July 2014). It made me lose hope of being a mother at some point, I just prayed to have one, even just one. I remember the moment when I used a breathing device to receive oxygen and to stabilize my high blood pressure after having an altitude sickness, while your Daddy and I were in El Tatio Geysers Field in San Pedro de Atacama. Little did I know, it will be the start of our new journey together. I remember the time when the toilet bowl became my bestfriend everytime I vomit every after 30 minutes (or sometimes less), 24 hours a day, for three weeks straight. Sleepless nights, no food intake, homesickness, extreme nausea - these are a few I need to endure during those times. I saw the horror in your Daddy's face and I know he was as scared as I am. I even rememb...

Ode for September

Translations: Full days and nights thinking, thinking of the person I want to be, be the only one in your heart and to kiss, hug and love you under the moon and th...

Oh no, I am engaged! Now what's next?

Exactly a month ago, I said yes to someone I am going to spend the rest of my life with. I used to tell him that if ever he will ask the question, he should tell me a day before so that I can prepare my dress and hair and make-up. Contrary to this, however, he popped the question in the most unexpected time. He never asked me while we were in the Sparkz Restobar in the 37th floor of Crown Regency Sky Tower Cebu, nor while we were watching sunset in Boracay, nor while we were having our ‘alone time’ in our ship to Cebu, nor while we were in the Harbor View in Manila Bay. To my surprise, he asked me “Marry me... please” after a day of flights from Cebu to Manila to Puerto Princesa. We arrived late in Puerto Princesa, but we both craved for crocodile sisig to satisfy his curiosity. It started raining heavily while we were still meters away from the restaurant. Indeed, holding hand while walking under the rain is such sweet thing, so we ignored the raindrops and just enjoyed the ...

The Awakening of Endymion and the Fall of Moon Kingdom

*this is my own version of the sequel of Endymion's story. This was submitted in compliance with our class requirement for Mythology Summer 2013 Endymion stayed there perpetually asleep on a cave on Karian Mount Latmus. Indeed, he never grew old nor died. He remained young and handsome. From time to time, Selene, his lover, frequently visited him in his dreams. Hence, his dreams became his reality with only Selene in it. A hundred of years later, a mortal maiden travelling through the mountains saw the peacefully sleeping Endymion lying on a flat rock inside a cave. She strode to his side, and enchanted by his beauty, instantly fell in love with him. She wondered what made him sleep so calmly there and miss the beauty of nature just outside the cave. She thought that maybe he was also a traveler, like her, who became very tired after a long trek. She sat beside him and patiently waited for him to be awakened. Days and nights had passed already, yet he did not open his eyes, ...

The Infamy of Olympus

The ball gradually disappears as darkness falls down, the goal post on the other side of the field blurs, and the flock of egrets flies West. It is already nightfall. It is impossible to see the ball and deliver that winning kick. Indeed, to score a goal is unattainable. Yet, I and the rest of my team cannot leave the football field that even light rain showers cannot stop us. The field seems like a newly-plowed rice field already. Football shoes are swathed by sludge. Everybody is soaked in sweat. We spent the entire afternoon practicing for our football game tomorrow. I know I am in the best team. But why do I sense defeat, sort of a bad news, is coming? My feet are sored, my jersey shirt is dirty, my hair is a mess, and I smell stinky… yet I had so much fun. I love the wind, softly rebelling against my face and unsympathetically playing with my hair, as I run fast for the ball. It gives me a certain feeling of freedom. It was so liberating that I enjoyed it a lot. I look at myse...

Meet The One Who Take My Breath Away

Image
In our Obligations and Contracts (Civil Law II) class, our professor asked, “What are the two things in life you cannot avoid?” Death and… (Silence, everybody's thinking). He looked at me, impliedly directing the question to me, and I absent-mindedly replied, “Death and falling in love, sir.” Then, I blushed like a highschooler. It’s been for a couple of months already and its getting harder to keep this personal secret day after day. Everybody noticed it and everybody is asking me about it. Well, perhaps because I’ve drawn so many hearts everywhere and kept on singing love songs even I'm always out of tune. I want to share this kind of happiness with everybody even from the start. But I prefer not to and enjoy this by myself for fear of being judged and misunderstood. I am afraid that I cannot answer all of their questions, for I even don't know how to explain this in the first place. I know not all people can understand because not all people believe in long-distance ...
